Our story

Two careers in solar, one hometown.

BT stands for Better Together, a name that reflects how our company started and how we work with customers. It's a partnership between two people who have spent their careers in solar, and a partnership with every customer we serve.

  1. 2010

Neil Wenderoth and Derek Fannin meet while working at an Albuquerque solar company specializing in system design.

  2. California

Their careers take them west: Neil to Northern California with a major solar firm, Derek to Southern California managing installations.

  3. Reunited

Neil launches his own company and partners with Derek's installation team to deliver systems across California.

  4. 2020

Both return home to Albuquerque, and go on to found BT Energy to serve New Mexico.

“Neil and Derek at BT Energy took excellent care of me when my original solar company left me partially installed! Extremely good communication throughout the entire process of getting my solar commissioned and generating! I hope not to need more services; however, if and when the time comes, I will absolutely be using BT Energy. Highly recommend working with them.”

“Derek is a man of real character and integrity. He does what he says he will do, works hard, and treats people the right way. In a world where that is not always the case, it stands out. You can trust him to handle things with honesty and excellence.”

“I recently had a great experience with BT Energy and wanted to share how impressed I was with their team. From the beginning, Neil stood out with his knowledgeable and professional approach. He didn’t just try to sell me solar — he really took the time to educate me on how the system works, what the benefits are, and what to realistically expect. It made the whole process feel transparent and comfortable. That guy really loves what he does. One of the things that gave me the most confidence in BT Energy was learning that their installer is also a certified roofer. The thought of having intrusive work done on my newer roof was a big hangup for me, so this helped me get over that. Overall, the experience felt honest, professional, and well-informed from start to finish. If you’re considering residential solar, I’d definitely recommend giving BT Energy a call.”
